Well,
we are not
a "Web
Services"
company,
nor do we
suggest
that you
let us
host your
site, then
send you
to an ISP
elsewhere
at a price
almost
twice the
amount,
which you
would pay
if you
contacted
them
yourself!
We are not
against
people
making a
buck or
two, but
shop
around. We
know that
20 megs of
space,
(about 20
pages and
graphics),
can
be had for
as little
as $9.95
per
calendar
month.
Actually,
we have
one site
hosted for
nothing as
the fee
paid, pays
for
Internet
Access for
a person
who
otherwise
could not
afford it.
We
are also
not
Muskoka.com!
We are not
an ISP.
We
recommend
that you
register
your own
domain
name
rather
than
allowing
anyone to do
it for
you.
Ensure you
retain the
ownership,
contacts,
technical
contacts,
account
contacts
etc. NEVER
allow
others to
assume
these
titles
and/or
roles. If
you become
unhappy
with the
services
rendered,
you may
find it
almost
impossible
to move
your own
web site
and
domain,
elsewhere.
Our
pages
direct you
to various
local
ISP's as
well as
AOL
Canada.
You may
wish to
use one or
more of
these as
your
dialup
ISP, and
you can
have your
site
hosted on
a
"real"
or
"virtual"
server,
locally or
somewhere
else in
the world.
Ensure
that you
have a
backup
copy of
your Web
Site, and
ensure
that your
chosen
host can
verify
that they
have a
positive
track
record of
being on
line. You
don't want
your web
site
"down"
more than
it is
"up".
Your
Web Site
is the
Internet
Door to
your
business,
whether or
not your
site is
used for
commerce
or information.
What
we are is
a private
Web Site,
highlighting
Muskoka
and the
many
businesses
and
services
of the
area. If
you wish
to
advertise
your
business
without a
web site,
we can
offer a
simple
"coupon
or gift
certificate"
to your
customers.
You let
your
customers
know the
coupon/certificate is
available
on the
Internet,
and they
get the
coupon.
Your cost
is nothing
for the
first
month. If
you want
your
business
listed on
our many
pages,
(and it
currently
is not
listed),
there is
no charge.
Costs only
occur if you
wish an
e-mail
link to
your
e-mail
address,
or a link
to your
web site.
The fee is
annual,
and is
quite
inexpensive.
See our
advertising
pages for
more
information.
Don't
know how
to create
a Web
Site?
Well,
first off,
you can
purchase
one of
many
programmes
to get you
started.
You can do
it
yourself.
Maybe your
company is
not large
enough at
the moment
to allow
you to use
one of the
local
people.
You don't
need a
graphic
artist
either.
Surf the
Internet
and look
around at
sites,
which you
like. Yes,
most are
copyright,
but you
can
certainly
get an
idea of
what can
be done.
If you are
only using
the
Internet
to get
yourself
or your
firm
"out
there"
initially,
and you
are not
selling
anything
over the
Internet,
except
yourself,
try doing
it
yourself.
It is not
that
difficult!
No, it
might not
look great
the first
time, but
that is no
reason to
stop
trying.
There
are also
many
"hosts"
you can
contact,
where they
offer a
variety of
templates.
They also
allow you
to
register
your
domain
name, (if
not
already
taken),
and they
host your
site for
you.
Ensure you
recognize
the costs
before
signing
up. You
will also
need to
have a
local ISP,
so add the
two costs
together,
(remember
to
add/subtract
exchange
if one is
in other
than your
local
currency).
Use the
end figure
to
determine
if this is
the right
avenue for
you to
use.
Sometimes
a local
ISP can do
everything
for you,
at the
same or
similar
costs.
